Myra van de Korput
As a daughter in the third generation of creative women, it was predictable that Myra would also develop this trait. Her grandmother ran a sewing workshop, her grandmother’s sister was a Modiste, her mother painted, so the interest in fashion and art was always there.
After trying out various art forms, Myra has been heavily involved in hat design since 1999. A lot comes together in this profession, from spatial forms, use of color, picking beautiful materials to forming a wearable fashionable design. Her hats are characterized by elegant, clear shapes and lines. She has gained much knowledge at home and abroad and has since won several awards with her hats. Her desire for free work and the need to bring more creativity to the process prompted her to develop a new technique. This involves forming hats and fascinators without the use of a wooden mold. She now specializes in these free form sinamay edges.
She regularly participates in fashion shows, bridal shows, hat shows, and art tours, exhibitions in museums and luxury fashion stores. Her designs have been featured at such events as Prince’s Day, Royal Ascot, international competitions and in publications in Dutch and English magazines.
Since 2007, she has had her own studio in Barendrecht near Rotterdam, where she designs and sells her hats. This is also where hat-making classes and workshops are held for students and Art School students.
